Pets in Need: Adopted 2009
Update 12/20/09: Tiger Lily was adopted at our recent adoption fair.
Miss Tiger Lily is approximately 2-3 year old spayed/declawed female. She is leukemia tested, has all current shots and is ready for a new home. We have found Miss Tiger to be gentle, loving, clean, quiet and good with all ages of people. Because she was very ill when she came to us, we have not been able to judge her personality long-term in mixing with other cats. After her illness isolation time, we found her exceptionally kind and tolerant to all our kittens and keen on helping them keep washed up and tidy. However, she was not comfortable having the other adult cats come near the babies and would chase them away. We, therefore, think that she would do well in a single cat family or for her to be adopted with a kitten for her to care for as it is growing up. She is a thinker and a watcher as you can see by her photo. She adores having you sit with her for petting and constantly will stay by your legs when you enter the cattery. Because of the declaw, she will positively need to be a totally inside cat. Miss Tiger's adoption fee is $50.00.
12/20/09 Update:
The recent adoption fair found a home for Hansel and Gretel. They will be adopted together and go to their new home on Christmas Eve!
12/3/09 Hansel and Gretel are typical Maine Coon look alikes with the ear tuffs and ring around the neck. Their hair is long and silky and they love to be brushed and loved. This is either brother and sister or father and daughter with very dedicated family ties. Hansel is the darker one and he worries about his Gretel when she leaves their cage to do some visiting around the cattery. Gretel have a warm honey brown look on her back - very pretty and she knows it. Gretel had to be partially shaved because of severe knots on her sides and tummy. They are leukemia tested, spayed/neutered, all shots and treated for fleas and worms. They do not seem disturbed about the other cats. Never hiss or spit. Very nice couple, very quiet, clean and loving. Adoption fee is $50.00 each and they must go together.

Tasha is a approximately 1 to 2-year-old spayed female with all shots and leukemia tested. She is happy she is going to a new home, but she has not been the least concerned that she would be chosen. She has been happy and very talkative. She roams the cattery and tells the most outlandish stories about her adventures as a stray. No one believes her, but she doesn't care. She knows she is special and is clearly ready to tell the world all about herself. She is a great kitty and will make her new owners feel very loved.
11/17/09: Chi Chi is about a 6-month-old spayed/declawed female. She was sweet, loving but very shy when she first came to us and we have found that she is a most exceptional cat. A friend and my husband both agree that Chi Chi is everything anyone could ever want in a best friend/companion/cat. The shyness only lasts until she knows you and her environment. Then Chi Chi determines how she can be all that you want her to be. She is leukemia tested, 3 distemper shots, rabies shot, wormed 4 times, checked for fleas and ear mites. She like to eat her meals in a quiet corner off by herself. She gets along with all other cats. She is terribly afraid of dogs. She had a very bad experience with two dogs and has not recovered emotionally from that episode. She has lived in 3 foster homes during her journey through Halfway Home Pet Rescue and all 3 families agree that she is the BEST!!!!! She will need to be an inside cat because of the declaw. Her adoption fee is $50.00.
There are 6 of the bluff colored long-haired sweethearts living at a caring Halfway Home Pet Rescue foster home.
They have been medically treated for exposure issues related to their abandonment. Two babies died soon after being rescued.

Buster, an 8-week-old mixed-persian kitten, was found in a water-logged drainage ditch at the age of about 4 weeks. He has recovered from his exposure and was placed in a foster home and is now a clean living, happy little kitten who is fun loving and full of tricks. Other kittens like Buster are waiting for their forever homes! Buster's adoption fee was only $40.00 and included the leukemia testing, distemper shot, worming, flea removal and a fully paid neuter voucher for when he is old enough for surgery.
Momma Theresa is asking her former owner: "What part of SPAY, did you not understand?" Momma has adopted one other litter besides her own and is anxious for 8 weeks to past so that her body can once again become part of his own self. She will have to wait 2 more weeks after the last litter is weaned and her milk dried up before she is safely seek the surgery. Halfway Home Pet Rescue will see her spayed and all shots before she is adopted out so she will not be back into this circumstances again in less than 2 months. Update 10/10/09: Mother Theresa and all of the kittens have been adopted into loving forever homes.
Dominick is a sweet, loving 10-week-old male kitten with a people addicted personality. He wants to be where the humans are and wants their full attention. He enjoys his naps on the sofa of his caring foster family and he thinks a large tummy is really a shelf for him to stretch out on. He is leukemia tested, all age appropriate shots, 3 wormings, treated for fleas and ear mites and will have a fully paid neuter voucher for when he is old enough for the surgery. Dominick gets along very well with other cats and is not afraid of well-behaved dogs. His environment has been very safe and loving, so he does not have any street smarts and, therefore, he should remain an inside cat.

12/20/09 Update:
The recent adoption fair found a home for Mikey! Read about Mikey in his new home.
12/3/009 Mikey is a 3 to 3 1/2 month-old male who came to us very ill when we rescued him from a feral colony in Caribou. I don't think Mikey has ever known a day of having a full stomach (except that he was bloated with worms). He also had fleas and ticks, roundworms and tapeworms. Poor little fellow had eyes as big as saucers with fear, but he was too sick to react to capture. He has received medical attention and should be available for adoption just before Christmas. He is leukemia tested, treated for ear mites, fleas, worms, ticks and has one distemper shot. He will have his second shot and another round of parasite treatment before then. His adoption fee is $40.00.
Update: Read a letter from Jasmin.
12/3/09 Jasmine is approximately 2 to 3 years old - has the coon tuffs in her ears, very long, thick hair - sorta a torti mix of colors - absolutely beautiful. She is destined for the vet on Monday, Dec. 7th for spaying and shaving for heavy matts. She is leukemia tested, all shots and treated for fleas. Very gentle loving cat. Talks to you and searches for you. Loves to have your undivided attention. Can't get enough lap time. Appears to be fine with other cats, I don't know about dogs, but she was found in a dog filled neighborhood. Adoption fee is $50.00.

Little Bert of the B litter at Halfway Home Pet Rescue is about 11 weeks old and has a very positive self-image. All other members of his litter have been adopted, but Bert only sees this as a bigger chance for him to be King of the Foster Home. He was the runt of the litter and we held him a little longer to see a better growth spurt. He has grown well and interacts beautifully with 7 other adult cats who have all decided to love him. Bert must have the cleanest face and ears in the county. Bert is leukemia tested, has two distemper shots, wormed 3 times, treated for fleas and mites and will be adopted with a fully prepaid Neuter Voucher for when he is old enough for surgery.
Bert loves cats, people and toys. He is full of mischief, plays hard and sleeps soundly with loud happy purrs. He thinks dogs are icky, but only because he does not know one yet. Bert would be a great addition to any family.
October 2009: This newly rescued litter of young kittens (below) was available for adoption at the Oct. 17th, 2009 Halfway Home Adoption Fair. They were 9 weeks old as of Saturday, Oct. 17. The adoption fair is held monthly in Caribou to give perspective owners a chance to interact and watch the kittens play. October's Fair was held at the home of Judy Robertson, Caribou from 2 to 4 pm. 14 kittens and 3 adult cats were ready for the Oct 17th adoption fair. Cats/kittens are tested for personality issues in our foster homes to insure that new owners are adopting the type of personality that best fits their wish.... playful, quiet, clean, rascal, lap sitter.
This adorable little kitten was orphaned at 5 weeks old. We still have kittens available for adoption and many more that are still too young for adoption. Permanent homes and foster homes are greatly needed. We are in short supply on Purina Kitten Chow, canned milk and bleach. Paradis Shop & Save on High Street, Caribou keeps a cart in the front of the store for you to leave donated articles. Call 207 492-1722.

Emma is such a sweet kitty that when I call her, I say, "Emma Sweetie, come see me." Emma Sweetie is a 6 year old spayed and declawed female who just cannot quit loving you and thinking the entire world is her best friend. Emma is spayed, declawed, all shots including Rabies, wormed, defleaed. Emma is a short-hair gorgeous silver blue cat. She is free to a good home. Emma has a good appetite and likes to nap by crawling under a blanket or towel. She is her own person and will want to sniff you several times before sitting on your lap, but once there - your lap is hers. She is extremely clean about the house and your own body. She is used to dogs and ignores them. She gets along with other cats and either likes or ignores them also. Our famous Sir Amos is Emma's best friend, but she adjusts well on her own. Emma does not like crowded, noisey situations and will prefer to crawl under her towel under things quiet back down. She is used to children and likes well-mannered, respectful children, but does not like children who might pester her. We have had Emma live in two different foster homes (Jean & Milton) since April and both foster families think Emma is a very special kitty. Emma MUST be considered an inside cat due to the declaw. Read more about Emma...
Hogan is a 9-week-old kitten fostered at Halfway Home. His adoption fee was $40.00 and included all age appropriate shots, worming, cleared of any parasites and a fully paid neuter voucher for when he is a little older. He is a happy little tiger, with many tricks and a manly "Hi, I'm Hogan" attitude.
Emmett
Rescued as a 5-week-old kitten and adopted when he was 9 weeks, Emmett has livened up the home of a Caribou couple who are homebound. He has has an older feline housemate who has become his best friend and together they keep things very, very interesting. Truly, a match made in heaven.
Our Halfway Home Foster Home environment is 98% cageless and nicely mannered cats soon enjoy a cozy happy freedom with a huge social room and an outside safety fenced play yard. Photos here.
