Chester is an orange/white tiger, 5 months old male kitten. He is very friendly, happy, healthy - has been leukemia tested, first shots, cleared of parasites. Very clean and well-mannered kitten. Ready to go. Adoption fee $50.
Max is a handicapped cat with limitations. He came from a very neglectful background (a cat hoarder) and was close to death from fleas, ear mites, URI, worms and eye infection, when he came to us. His head will probably always be held in a crooked way because he was so filled with ear mites that they ate through his eardrum and has upset that balance permanently. He was on antibiotics with us for about 6 weeks and has improved quite a bit in how he holds his head. But this is probably as good as it will get during his lifetime and should be the only long-term effect remaining from his neglect. He is medically clear. Max will always need to be an inside cat. His loss of hearing has made him shy until he knows you will not hurt him and then he is Mr. Love Me Forever. Adoption fee $25. Max was adopted through our outreach supporter, Tractor Supply in Presque Isle. Read more about Max here. NOTE: Max and Donna (at right) were adopted by the same family, who love special needs pets. THANK YOU.

After more than 1 1/2 years in loving foster care with Jean Nadeau, Amos and Trudy have found a home! The long wait has paid off - they will be in a supportive country home, a perfect environment for them both. We are sad to say goodbye, but filled with joy because they will have a permanent home.
Amos is a 6 1/2 year neutered male who lived 5 1/2 years as a feral in our lakeside woods at Madawaska Lake. He had a 4-5 miles radius that he kept to and developed human friends only to the point that he allowed them to provide him with sheltered winter hideouts and a continuous food supply line. Four families kept a watch out for Amos during 5 1/2 year-around attempts to capture him. He was too smart to be trapped when the other 16 of his colony was trapped and relocated. Amos has now decided that he LOVES domestic life better. He is a great hunter. Amos must be adopted with his best friend, Trudy (her story on the right).

Thelma is a 10 mos old Maine Coon mix spayed female who is desperately looking for a permanent home. Although she loves the people at Halfway Home Pet Rescue, she is totally disgusted to have to put up with all the other "cats." Thelma knows she is a queen of feline city and expects everyone else to know this and to bow to her every wish. She is a cat with a major "catt-a-tude" and has personality plus. She attempts to discuss her plight with the volunteers and does not understand why we simply do not dump all these other "cats" and be satisfied with just her. She adores people who know she is a feline queen and will cuddle until the cows come home if you recognize her true worth. She is leukemia tested, all shots, wormed, spayed and her adoption fee is only $40.00.
Freda and Frances, the adorable calico sisters have found homes.

Tiny Tim, a huge young neutered male (at least 15 pounds) residing at Halfway Home Pet Rescue, is a very special 2009 Christmas cat who is missing one front foot (probaby caught in an animal trap). Tiny Tim was a drop-off this winter at a New Sweden farmer's barn with a dangling badly torn paw. He was too sweet natured to be a barn cat (including letting their very large dog play with him) so the farmer called us. What a doll. A special favorite cat with the nicest disposition you could ever find and he doesn't let losing one foot bother his movements. Read about Tiny Tim and Emma.
Angie, a 3 year spayed female who is very tiny for age (looks like 5 or 6 months), leukemia tested, long-black-velvet hair, well groomed, loves people but likes you to reach slowly until she knows you well enough to feel safe. Trudy, who is a 1 1/12 year old spayed female and still semi-feral. Trudy will not bite or claw but is still very shy and perfers to stay in the background, only coming out at feeding time or with Amos as her protector. They adore each other and Amos is really Trudy's hero. Amos and Trudy will need access to an outside area which would be on a very large farmhouse environment or in a protected fenced in area. You cannot find two more precious felines anywhere or more personality. We will be very fussy about where and who gets to adopt this pair.It took 5 1/2 years to trap Amos -- he was that smart and the memory of the day he chose to become domesticated still makes my heart feel thrilled. I warn you -- I am not sure how I will part with them. Trudy came in with 4 other feral 4-month old siblings. Four siblings became somewhat domesticated except Trudy, who has blocked everything and everyone out of her life except her darling Amos. They are the ultimate of what animal rescue is all about. Please God, let the absolute perfect home appear for Amos and Trudy because Amos will not accept just anyone or anyplace. He is a gentle boss.

Dixie
We are anxious to find a country home for our little Dixie Girl. Dixie escaped from my home 3 times. From the people I spoke to, it appears that Dixie had quite a tour of Caribou. But I was always just a few hours behind her. I had just gotten into bed that night when the phone rang and the police officer asked if I was still missing a cat. When I entered the station door, I instantly recognized her sitting on the shelf. When I called "Dixie" and she ran straight to me like I had been lost forever. Dixie is about 2 years, leukemia tested, spayed female, all shots, wormed and very loving. She is good with other cats, dogs and children. Dixie needs either a farm home or a town home on a quiet street. Our sweet Dixie is a Gypsy.

Little Meg, (a very petite, young unspayed female) does not remember the 2 or 3 warm days in late Nov. 2009 when she last felt foot loose and fancy free. Meg gave birth to 5 babies on March 2, and fortunately, a kind person brought her to Halfway Home Pet Rescue (HHPR).
