Carl is a 9 plus year old DLH Maine Coon mix. His owner brought him to be treated for a broken leg, foot and a hole in his stomach after being attached by the owner’s pit bull. Carl had been treated by a local vet who suggested putting Carl down immediately. The owner brought Carl to HHPR. We immediately made an appointment with a specialist in Orrington and drove 3 1/2 hours to get Carl the necessary surgery.
Carl returned to us and spent several weeks in a cast needing frequent check-up and cast changes. Carl’s belly was covered in stitches and he was on a couple of medications. When Carl was pronounced well enough to go back home we checked with the previous owner to see if he had given away his pit bull yet. He had not so we decided Carl could be put up for adoption.
During the final check-up the vet told us that one of his vet techs was dearly in love with Carl and would we give her a chance at adopting him. It was a better life in a safe haven for Carl and we tearfully gave him to her.
