Ash – May 2013
Ash is about 1 year old, male, black with a white patch DSH, independent, handsome and very statuesque. He likes to be petted, loves to lie in the sun and loves pawing the door in the social room to let us know he’s in there and wants some attention.
Star – December 2013
Star is a female, approx. 2 1/2 years old. She is shy at first but will warm up, can be a lap cat but does not like to be held for a long time. Star is good with dogs, cats and children. She is short-haired, spayed and housebroken. In her photo, she is hiding in her favorite spot – cube-like boxes. Here, she loves to be petted and will come right out to see you to say hi.
Update: Star was transferred to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland where she found her forever home.
Danny – June 2013
Danny is approximately 2 1/2 years old, male, neutered, gray tiger. He is very confident and has great pride in his appearance. He gets along well with other cats especially females. With males, he will not start a fight but he will not back down from one either. He has all his medical completed and his adoption fee is only $25.00. Danny is a very big cat and will probably gain even more. He is clean, playful and curious. He is a great hunter. If kept inside all the time, Danny will need some serious playtime to satisfy his hunting instinct. A toy like the feather on a pole or hiding toy mice in tight places will fulfill his need. He will be great with any size family. Danny can be sensitive about his tail being touched.
Note: HHPR encourages responsible pet ownership. Cats live longer, healthier lives if kept indoors. Cats are very happy to live indoors if they have their physical and emotional needs met. Make your home a cat friendly environment with places of their own such at cat trees and condos, cat grass plants, and toys that mimic hunting and foraging. And play with your cat!
Rita – October 2013
Hello, my name is Rita. I have no idea why I look so unhappy in all my photos because I’m a happy young girl. I may be shy at times but if you give me time, I come right out of my shell and may even sit on your lap. I’m not much of a “please pick me and hold me” kinda cat but I do enjoy being petted and brushed, especially being brushed. I WILL NOT leave your side during brushing time, at all! Bill and I are pretty good friends and we will sit together while you brush us both. It’s fun! I’d prefer a quieter fur-ever home, maybe with older children and even a place where I can hang out in a window and watch the birds fly by and feel the sun on my fur.
NOTE: Rita was adopted with Bill !
November update from Rita’s new family: We are truly enjoying Rita and Bill. My nickname for them is R & B for rhythm and blues, appropriate since I teach music in the public school system. Anyway, they have adjusted very well and my husband and I love having them around. It’s funny the little routines we all get into in such a short time. I can’t imagine not having them around.
Billy Bob – November 2013
Billy Bob is approximately 4 years old, neutered, black and white, LARGE lap cat. He is clean, loving and good with female cats if they are not bossy. Scared of female cats if they are bossy. He looks like a tough guy with that large face, but he is very sweet.
Billy Bob posed a lot of challenges to find the best placement. After many efforts and heartbreaks, he finally landed into a suitable home later in 2013.
Minou – October 2013
Minou is approximately 4 years old, spayed, calico. She is shy and would be best in a one-cat home with an older person. She is a large cat with very distinct markings.
“My name is Minou. I’m tri-lingual. I know Cat, English and French. Sadly, my owner had to go into a nursing home and he was no longer able to keep me. I’ve been here at HHPR since February. I may be about three years old. I miss my owner and my home. I wish someone who maybe was bi-lingual or even tri-lingual would come and adopt me! I’d prefer a home without other cats and no young kids for me please. Come speak French to me and see if I respond.”
Note: Minou did find a bilingual home!
Milton – May 2013
Milton is about 1 1/2 years old. He is a large gray and white neutered male, an easygoing lap cat.
Scooter – February 2013
Scooter came in by owner surrender along with his sister, Bailee. They had been well-treated but just could not stay in their present environment. While at HHPR, both Scooter and Bailee came into their own and received the personal attention of every volunteer. It took time to find the right match for this guy, but he soon became the love of someone’s life once again.
Bailee – February 2013
Bailee is a beautiful young Maine Coon mix female who has bounced around a bit and ended up with HHPR along with her brother, Scooter. Even though they had known each other all their lives, they did not seem too upset to be separated and become the center of attention.
